Match Preview: San Antonio vs. Carolina
Scorpions Host RailHawks on Saturday
Posted on Fri, Jul 27, 2012

For the first time ever, the Carolina RailHawks travel to San Antonio, Texas to take on the league-leading San Antonio Scorpions at the fortress that is Heroes Stadium. Over the past ten games, both teams have been fairly equal in terms of results, and are both coming off wins from last weekend’s matches.

The hosts increased their lead atop the NASL standings with a 1-0 win over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in San Antonio. Pablo Campos scored the lone goal, his league-leading eleventh of the season. Daryl Sattler posted his tenth shutout of the season, and increased the Scorpions’ record of shutting opponents out at home to an incredible 677 consecutive minutes.

In the RailHawks’ last match the team defeated the Minnesota Stars by a goal to nil. It took just ten minutes for the RailHawks to strike through Zach Schilawski, but it took another five hours for the game to end after experiencing what was nearly a four hour weather delay due to thunderstorms. The win was Carolina’s six in the last ten and the three points was enough to move the team ahead of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the standings.

The last time these sides met, the RailHawks fell 1-0 to the Scorpions in front of a home crowd at WakeMed Soccer Park. Scorpions’ captain Kevin Harmse scored the game’s only goal in 82nd minute of the match. Harmse and RailHawks’ captain Kupono Low miss the match through suspension after both players were shown two cautions in their last matches.

The Scorpions have proven themselves as the most solid defensive team in the league, and are the only side to concede less than a goal a game this season. The RailHawks will be sure to test San Antonio’s defense as the league-high 29 goals scored this season have shown that they know how to break down even the toughest defenses.

San Antonio signed MLS' all-time leading goalscorer Jeff Cunningham this week. H culm is NASL debut in this game.
