July 17, 2012 (Bayamón, Puerto Rico)Two Islanders have been selected by their respective nations to participate in the FIFA U-20 World Cup Qualifying Group Stage.
Defender César García has again been called to represent the U-20 Dominican Republic National Football Team.
Joseph “Jackie” Marrero has been called to represent Puerto Rico for the U-20 FIFA tournament.
García (D, 19, Jarabacoa, DOM) has already featured 12 times for the Dominican National Team. His one international goal came in FIFA World Cup qualifying against the Cayman Islands in 2011. He was named the 2011 Dominican Player of the year. The young defender made his Puerto Rico Islanders debut as a substitute on July 11, 2012 against the San Antonio Scorpions. He was played at the right back position.
Marrero (M, 19, San Juan) debuted with the National team this past November 14th in a game against St. Lucia at 18 years of age. In this match he had an excellent debut, recording an assist and a goal. He has been capped 5 five times. He got his start in Quintana Academy before singing to the Islanders. He played 45 minutes in his debut as a substitute with the Islanders against Atlanta Silverbacks.
Marrero will return to the Islanders the 30th of July.
García will return to the Islanders on the 1st of August.
