Match Preview: Edmonton vs. Puerto Rico
FC Edmonton Host Islanders on Sunday
Posted on Sat, Jun 30, 2012

Following a winless two-match road trip, FC Edmonton returns home to Clarke Stadium to host the first- place Puerto Rico Islanders.

FC Edmonton was unable to pick up a single point on their travels, coming up shorthanded after trips to Fort Lauderdale and Carolina ended in shutout victories for the home sides. Last weekend the Eddies were unable to stop a resurgent RailHawks side, falling 2-0 in Cary, North Carolina.

Fresh off securing a 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League berth, the Islanders visited Silverbacks Park to take on the last-place Atlanta Silverbacks. A pair of goals from forward Nicholas Addlery guided the Islanders to a 2-1 victory and helped reclaim top spot in the NASL standings.

Goals have been few and far between for the Eddies this season, with just twelve goals from 12 games. Scoring isn’t about to get any easier for Edmonton in this one; in David Martin, the Islanders boast a goalkeeper with just a 0.82 goals against average.

The last meeting between these two sides ended in a scoreless draw in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on April 18th. In that encounter the Eddies stifled a potent Islanders attack that had already scored five goals in just the first two games of the season. Edmonton will once again have their hands full trying to contain an attacking trident of Nicholas Addlery, Jonathan Faña, and David Foley.
