Match Preview: San Antonio vs. Atlanta
Scorpions Host the Silverbacks on Saturday As Part of International Doubleheader
Posted on Fri, Jun 29, 2012

The San Antonio Scorpions take on the Atlanta Silverbacks at Heroes Stadium, Saturday night in San Antonio, Texas. Both the Scorpions and the Silverbacks come in to this match off defeats. This match is the first half of the Scorpions International Challenge doubleheader.

Last weekend, the Scorpions were victims of a dramatic late comeback by the Tampa Bay Rowdies, losing their first match since April 15th. Up by a goal with less than three minutes to go, the Scorpions looked to be extending their unbeaten streak to ten matches, but Rowdies pulled off an incredible comeback, equalizing in the 88th before scoring the winning goal with the final kick off the match.

The difficulties continued for the Atlanta Silverbacks, who lost 2-1 at home to the Puerto Rico Islanders. The Silverbacks are now 0-3-4 at home, and without a win since their only victory of the season on June 3rd against FC Edmonton.

In the last meeting between these two teams, the Scorpions ran out 3-0 winners at Heroes Stadium. Pablo Campos scored twice for the Scorpions and goalkeeper Daryl Sattler helped his side to a second consecutive shutout against the Silverbacks, who faced San Antonio on the opening day of the season in a match that ended scoreless.

Having lost top spot to the Puerto Rico Islanders, the second place Scorpions will want to keep pressure on the side that is just a single point ahead of them with a win. Three points for the Silverbacks would put them level on points with FC Edmonton, at least for a day, as the Eddies host the Islanders on Sunday.
