Match Preview: San Antonio vs. Atlanta
Scorpions Host the Silverbacks on Saturday
Posted on Fri, Jun 8, 2012

Full of confidence following their first win of the season, the Atlanta Silverbacks travel to San Antonio to take on the Scorpions in the third match of their three-game road trip. With a draw in Fort Lauderdale and last weekend’s win versus FC Edmonton, the Silverbacks have picked up four points from the last two matches, but remain last-place in the NASL standings. The Scorpions are on a seven-match unbeaten streak following last week’s 0-0 draw with the defending NASL Champions Minnesota Stars FC.

The Scorpions last played Tuesday against Charlotte Eagles of USL Pro in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup at Heroes Stadium. The Scorpions crashed out of the cup in added time, giving up a penalty in the 117th minute that was duly tucked away by Eagles forward Mauricio Salles. Atlanta was knocked out in the third round by three-time defending Open Cup champs, Seattle Sounders FC a week prior.

In their first-ever NASL match, the San Antonio Scorpions were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw against the Atlanta Silverbacks at Silverbacks Park. Since that scoreless draw, the Scorpions have lost just one of the eight matches that followed, while the Silverbacks have won just once in nine matches this season.
