Scorpions to host East Coast tryouts in Maryland
Posted on Thu, Nov 17, 2011

SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Scorpions will be heading north for the East Coast swing of the team's initial tryouts.

The tryouts will take place at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds on Saturday, December 3rd.

The tryouts will give interested players a chance to impress in front of Scorpions Head Coach Tim Hankinson in hopes of receiving an offer to attend the Invitation Only Combine on Dec. 17th and 18th.

"We want to play a fast, aggressive style of football and we will be looking for players who can do that," Hankinson said of the evaluation process. "We will be looking for players that can control the ball individually and make plays on their own."

The Scorpions expect there to be a strong turnout for the Maryland/D.C. area tryouts and will be looking to find players that are capable of playing in Coach Hankinson's system.

"We have seen a lot of good talent over the past two tryouts and we expect to see more of that in Maryland," Hankinson said. "We are going to evaluate all the players and see if we can find some future Scorpions."

Spots are still available for the Maryland tryouts and interested participants can register by visiting the San Antonio Scorpions website or by calling the front office at (210) 495-8686.

San Antonio has already hosted two open tryouts in recent months with more than 150 players showcasing their talents for a chance to play professional soccer. The team's initial tryouts were held on October 23 at Grande Sports World in Casa Grande, Arizona. The Scorpions wrapped up their first home tryout at STAR Soccer Complex on November 5.

San Antonio will host two more tryouts at STAR: the Collegiate tryouts, open to participants between the ages of 19 and 22 on Dec. 15th and 16th; and another open tryout on January 28th that is open to all ages.
