The Stars will be the fourth second-division club for Martin Nuñez. He was acquired in a trade with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in March that sent centerback Jack Stewart the other way. He was a finalist for the Rookie of the Year award in the USL First Division in 2008 with the Carolina RailHawks. Nuñez moved to the Puerto Rico Islanders in 2009 before joining Miami FC/Fort Lauderdale Strikers in 2010. He made 36 appearances for the Strikers over two seasons for the Strikers. Nuñez scored five goals and tallied two assists in 28 appearances in 2011, including the game-winning goal in August as the Strikers topped the Stars 1-0 at NSC Stadium.
“Martin is a versatile attacking player who has been a matchup problem for us in the past. He gives us options in an area of the field where we felt we could improve,” Stars FC head coach Manny Lagos said.
