Playing with St Andrews out of Belfast from U12 to U16, Watson moved to Ballymena United at the age of 16 and played with the club until he was 24. From there, he was picked up by Belfast side Linfield FC in 2011. Watson has also played with the Northern Ireland national team at all the age groups up until U-23, where he was the captained the side at the U-17 and U-23 age levels.
