| Kevin Venegas introduced himself to Stars fans in some style on May 12, 2012, launching a twisting right-footed shot over the shoulder of Carolina’s Ray Burse that left the keeper as awed as the rest of the crowd at NSC Stadium. He built on that first impression by setting the Stars on their way to an upset with a headed goal in the fourth minute of the Stars’ 3-1 third round US Open Cup win at Real Salt Lake.
The Stars added the young midfielder after a successful college career at California State University, Fullerton. Venegas compiled 65 starts in 74 collegiate matches for the Titans, scoring 16 goals and assisting 11 more. Chivas USA selected him with the 37th selection of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft. In addition to a role in midfield, he also featured as an outside back during preseason for the Stars, although the wing with a role in the attack seems head coach Manny Lagos’ preferred position for him.
