2012: Defensive midfielder Alfonso Motagalvan signed with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers  ahead of the 2012 North American Soccer League season on February 3, 2012. He was given the number 2 jersey, last occupied by defender Cristian Quiñones.

After spending the first few weeks of the season sidelined through injury, Motagalvan made his first appearance with the Strikers on May 16, starting and playing the entire 90 minutes in a 3-1 loss to Minnesota Stars FC.

Professional: Motagalvan spent time with Chivas USA, playing with the reserve side, and as a trialist in the first team. He was never offered a professional contract with the MLS club. In February of 2010, he put pen to paper on a deal with the Rochester Rhinos of USSF-D2. He spent two seasons with the Rhinos as an undisputed starter in the center of midfield, playing a total of 56 games, scoring two goals and recording three assists.

Amateur: During his college years, Motagalvan also played for PDL side Ventura County Fusion. With the Fusion he scored the winning goal in the 2009 USL Premier Development League championship game.

College: Motagalvan played four years of college soccer at the University of Santa Barbara. During his sophomore season, Motagalvan was an important part of the Gauchos side that captured the 2006 NCAA Division I title. He was Co-Captain in his senior season in 2008 and was named First Team All-Big West in his junior year in 2007 after helping his side win their third straight league title. In four seasons he appeared in more than 50 games for the Gauchos.

Youth: In high school Motagalvan was recognized as a two-time NSCAA/adidas All-American. He was a member of the Super Y-League Select National Team, and was involved in the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program .
