Over the past two seasons, perhaps no name has been more firmly entrenched on the Stars' teamsheet than that of the club's captain, Kyle Altman. After several offseason trials with Major League Soccer clubs, the Albuquerque, N.M. native returns to the Stars in 2012 to anchor the backline.

2011 was a highly successful season for Altman, and it culminated in him being the first player to lay his hands on the new Soccer Bowl trophy after the Stars defeated the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the North American Soccer League championship series. Altman made 32 appearances for the stars, only missing minutes due to a one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation. When Neil Hlavaty wasn't in the line up, Altman was the Stars' designated penalty kick taker, and he converted both PKs he attempted on the season. He also scored from the run of play early in the season in a loss at Puerto Rico.

Altman began his professional career with the Minnesota Thunder in 2008. He sat out the 2009 season while completing his degree at Trinity University in San Antonio. Along with defender Kevin Friedland, he has also been a member of the United States Maccabi teams, and was the captain in 2011 as the US finished as runner up in the Pan American Maccabi Games in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
