To Area Soccer Coaches:
Re: NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma Course:
In August 2001 we sponsored the NSCAA State License Course with fifteen
coaches taking the course, and many have praised the wonderful job Dave
Gregson did in instructing it. The following January Dave taught the
Advanced Regional License Course with twenty coaches attending.
We are very happy to report that Dave has agreed to return to conduct the
Advanced Regional Diploma course June 6-8, 2003, at Heritage Christian
University (formerly International Bible College). This includes the
Regional Course, and the Advanced Regional component on systems of play.
The course will be taught on one weekend (Friday evening 6-9 PM, Saturday
8AM-4PM, and Sunday 1-4PM),.
The Regional course is designed for coaching club teams and high school
teams. The course will include instruction in the four components of
coaching soccer, constructing well-designed practices from warm-up to cool
down, teaching technical skills through the fundamental, game-related,
game-condition stages, and a progression of exercises teaching tactical
skills. The course will emphasize practice in 8v8 scrimmaging.
The Advanced Regional component is devoted to instruction in the systems
of play
(4-4-2, 3-5-2, 4-3-3, 3-4-3, etc.), the strengths and weaknesses of each
system, how to train players in each system, how to select the best system
according to the abilities of the players. All scrimmages and exercises
are 11v11.
We are very excited about this opportunity, and I want to take this
opportunity to remind you of coach Gregson’s credentials. Dave played on
the all-England national school boys team, attended Hartwick College on a
full athletic scholarship (NCAA I) under one of America’s finest coaches,
was team captain three years, and two years was honored as team MVP. As a
college coach he has been selected Coach of the Year in his conference
three times. Dave holds the highest license of both coach training
organizations (USSF “A” and NSCAA Premier).
I hope your schedule will enable you to take advantage of this
opportunity. The fee schedule is designed to break even on the NSCAA fee
we must pay for the course. The fee will be $85 for the combined Regional/
Advanced Regional course; $60 for the Regional course only, $40 for the
Advanced Regional component only. If you have any questions you may e-mail
me at jsmeal@hcu.edu, or call my
office (256-766-6610). (You may leave a message with the receptionist if I
am not in.)
