From ASA District Commissioner Marty Eaton

.. a brief report on what went on at the December 2003 Monthly ASA Board Meeting,

I will be attending the State Planning Meeting and then the Board Meeting on Sunday, January 11th and if folks have issues they would like addressed, they can email me, eaton@hiwaay.net before Saturday AM.

Short Sided soccer will follow the previously announced timetable.
For Fall 2004 that means 8v8 at U11 and 6v6 at U9. Schedulers, league directors, club personnel, referee assignors, etc should consider the impact on fields, how to mark 2 or more short sided fields out of existing fields, and how to cover with referees, I don't envision 3 man crews being needed for 8v8 or 6v6 games and can see where a newly instituted
grade 9 policy might also be good to cover these games.

Illegal recruiting rules will be revised to cover club officers, coaches, and managers, and will spell out both fines and suspensions for violations. We are looking at some kind of open transfer period to reduce the flow of work and turnover and make it easier but only done at one or two times of the year. Will be discussed at the planning meeting.

There is a planned college women's showcase and coaching workshop in the spring, details are forthcoming. (27/28 March)

The state DOC is planning to conduct week long soccer camps this summer as a
way of expanding the sport throughout the state.

If you have any questions about any of the items above please contact me at eaton@hiwaay.net.  Thanks.

Marty Eaton
North Alabama District Commissioner
