Fort Lauderdale Strikers announced the signing of 28-year-old Haitian midfielder James Marcelin ahead of the 2014 NASL Fall Season.
“James is physically one of the strongest players in the league, especially for his position,” said Strikers coach Günter Kronsteiner. “He has all the tools needed to play at the highest level. He’s technically strong, never loses a one on one. He’s going to be very important for us.”
Born in Saint-Marc, Haiti, the 6’2” midfielder has 24 caps for the Haitian National team, including starts in the 2009 Gold Cup and in several World Cup qualifiers. From 2011-2012, he appeared in 23 games for the Portland Timbers and 16 matches for FC Dallas, both from MLS.
The Strikers will open the Fall season at home as they take on the Spring champions Minnesota United FC on Saturday, July 12 at Lockhart Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
