Scorpions Hold Three-Time CONCACAF Champion CF Monterrey To 1-1 Draw

NASL’s San Antonio Scorpions held the three-time CONCACAF Champions League winners Rayados of CF Monterrey (Mexico) to a 1-1 draw in an international friendly in front of 6,397 spectators at Toyota Field on Sunday evening.

The four-time Mexican First Division (Liga MX) champion CF Monterrey opened the scoring in the 24th minute of the first half with a goal from forward Luis Madrigal off an assist from teammate Gael Acosta.

The Scorpions however got the equalizer against the three-time FIFA Club World Cup qualifier Rayados when Polish striker Tomasz Zahorski scored five minutes before halftime.

In the second half, Monterrey had a chance to win the match in injury time however the header from point blank range by Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva was saved by San Antonio goalkeeper Daryl Sattler to preserve the 1-1 final.

Scorpions will open the 2014 NASL Fall Season on Saturday, July 12, when they visit the New York Cosmos.
