The Fort Lauderdale Strikers announced today that Uruguayan midfielder/forward Martin Nuñez has signed a contract for the 2014 North American Soccer League (NASL) season.
Nuñez, 26, led the Strikers in scoring with five goals in the 2013 Fall season. The diminutive midfielder/forward is well-known by Strikers fans for his attacking prowess and all-action performances. He has scored 10 goals in 42 regular season appearances for the Strikers.
"Martin Nunez was one of our priority signings for the upcoming season,” said Strikers Managing Director Tim Robbie. “We expect him to play a vital role in our attack this season."
The 2014 season will mark Nuñez’ third year in Strikers colors. He originally played with the club in the inaugural 2011 season before re-joining the club in 2013 after a spell with Minnesota United FC in 2012.
A native of Miami, Nuñez started his professional career with the Carolina RailHawks in 2008. He was the club’s second leading scorer with five goals in 28 appearances and was named as a Rookie of the Year finalist. Nuñez joined the Puerto Rico Islanders the following season before making his way to South Florida to join Miami FC in 2010 (now the Fort Lauderdale Strikers).
More player signings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as the Strikers build toward the 2014 season.
