The Atlanta Silverbacks earned their first NASL victory at WakeMed Soccer Park after defeating the host Carolina RailHawks by a score of 2-0 in front of 3,106 spectators on Saturday evening.
Midfielder Tiyi Shipalane led the RailHawks in the quality chance category as he took multiple strong shots, all of which were knocked down by Atlanta's goalkeeper Eric Ati, whom had a very strong performance.
The Silverbacks scored both their goals in the second half with the first coming from midfielder Junior Sandoval, in the 63rd minute. Atlanta's second, came in the the 75th minute and was scored by defender Ryan Roushandel off an asist from midfielder Pablo Cruz.
The victory ended the Silverbacks three-game winless streak, while the RailHawks dropped their third consecutive game at home.
"We were fortunate, I thought it (the second goal) was a very good strike,” said Silverbacks coach, Jason Smith. “The game was very even, we did pick up our pace a little bit we got the ball we got better and I think it was the difference in the game."
