Cosmos Appoint Female Trainer

The New York Cosmos today named Alyssa Alpert to the post of Head Athletic Trainer. 

“We are delighted to welcome Alyssa to our team,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “Thanks to our partnership with Professional Physical Therapy, we know she will bring high quality and professionalism to the club.”

For Alpert, her new title represents another opportunity to work with the Cosmos franchise as she worked with the club during various points throughout last season. She also supplied athletic training to the 2013 Cosmos Copa tournament.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity and am looking forward to the start of the season,” Alpert said. “Joining a championship club is always something special and will provide a great challenge. As the head athletic trainer, I hope to build upon last season’s success and bring out the best in all the players.”

Alpert earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from Chapman University in Orange, California before also achieving her Master’s Degree in Psychology from LIU Post. While at Post, she served as the Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer, working with the soccer, cross country and women’s lacrosse programs.

Alpert has also treated performing artists as an athletic trainer with the Radio City Rockettes and Cirque du Soleil while the companies toured the west coast. For the last two years, Alpert worked for the Official Physical Therapists of the New York Cosmos, Professional Physical Therapy named her Head Athletic Trainer of their Garden City office in 2013. She is a New York State licensed and BOC certified Athletic Trainer and a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach.
